A fantastic arrangement from Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Sound of Music" - "My Favorite Things" by Stephen Hough.
Stephen Hough is a world renowned English pianist. He is also a gifted arranger and composer, as his arrangements of Rodgers and Hammerstein's demonstrate. While it is a terrific encore piece, I also find it satisfyingly complicated if you know what to listen for. The use of extended jazz chords, tritone substitutions, hemiola, bitonality, polyphony, and chromaticism make this work more than just a showpiece to me (though it is certainly showy!). I cannot help but smile every time I play it (every time I play it correctly, that is).
